In a 2-3-page paper (2 pages minimum, and 3 maximum) compare and contrast Stephen King’s “Reading to Write” and Frederick Douglass’ “Learning to Read and Write.” Both deal with the subject of literacy but the writers overcome very different challenges. While Douglas had to overcome the constraints of slavery to become literate while King reads to become a better writer.

A complete response will include a thesis statement that is supported by a close reading of both stories.

References to the text must be in MLA formatting.

REMINDERS:

Paragraph 1 – Summarize both readings and acknowledge both authors by full name as well as the title of their works. You also have an idea about their readings you state upfront.
