This week we watched the film, Ethnic Notions which discusses the origins of stereotypes about African Americans.  For this assignment, you will discuss how the four racial caricatures described in the film have shaped the images and identities of Black men in the United States based on these stereotypes.  You must identify at least three contemporary caricatures and tie the images to the racial caricatures used in the film to describe African American men.  Each paragraph should talk about the original caricature and then how the contemporary images is related to the ones described in the documentary.

Next, you will find contemporary images that represent these caricatures today.  For example, you might look for a picture of a contemporary Sambo.  For the three caricatures of African American men you found, you must find an image to match the caricature and place it in your assignment after you’ve written about each one.  You must the link between the contemporary caricature and the ones that you learned about from the film.
